Garv’s Pick of the Week: Passport to Pimlico & The Titfield Thunderbolt (Film Movement)
For the release week of December 17th:
Garv’s Pick of the Week: Passport to Pimlico [Blu-ray / Film Movement] and The Titfield Thunderbolt [Blu-ray / Film Movement]: I rarely select more than one title for my weekly “Pick,” but I couldn’t choose between these two charming comedies from Britain’s legendary Ealing Studios. Both the B&W Passport to Pimlico and Ealing’s first color comedy The Titfield Thunderbolt have been lovingly restored by Film Movement for these releases.
Additional Titles of Interest —
Trapped [Blu-ray / Flicker Alley]: Flicker Alley has once again teamed with the Film Noir Foundation and UCLA Film & Television Archive to restore and release a lost noir classic.
Murders in the Rue Morgue [Blu-ray / Scream Factory]: Scream Factory has been releasing the lesser-known Universal horror films in Blu-ray box sets. For some reason they decided to give this Edgar Allan Poe adaptation, starring Bela Lugosi, a standalone release. It’s a good flick, but it’s only 61 minutes long.
Universal Horror Collection: Volume 3 [Blu-ray / Scream Factory]: This set provides HD upgrades of Tower of London (1939), Man-Made Monster (1941), The Black Cat (1941), and Horror Island (1941). There are no top-of-the-line titles in this set, but they are fun time-waisters.
To the Devil… A Daughter [Blu-ray / Scream Factory]: The last horror film produced by Hammer Studios in the Seventies stars Christopher Lee, Richard Widmark, and Nastassja Kinski.
