Garv’s Pick of the Week: Beat the Devil (Twilight Time)
For the release week of January 22nd:
Garv’s Pick of the Week: Beat the Devil [Blu-ray / Twilight Time]: For me, this Blu-ray is an absolute “must own.” It features the new, extended restoration of Beat the Devil (1953), which is actually the complete International version, with four additional minutes of footage and a different sequencing of some scenes versus the familiar, censored U.S. cut. This longer version was the original vision of director John Huston and writer Truman Capote, but it has never before been released on home video in any format. Amazon links are not included for this title, as Twilight Time Blu-rays are exclusive to www.twilighttimemovies.com and www.screenarchives.com.
Additional Titles of Interest —
The Return of Frank James [Blu-ray / Twilight Time]: The sequel to Jesse James (1939) was the first Western and the first sequel directed by Fritz Lang (the original was directed by Henry King). Henry Fonda reprises his role of Frank James, who is out for revenge against the Ford Brothers who killed his brother Jesse. This was also the first film for screen siren Gene Tierney. As a Twilight Time title, it is also exclusive to www.twilighttimemovies.com and www.screenarchives.com.
