Garv’s Pick of the Week: All the Colors of Giallo (Severin Films)
For the release week of January 29th:
Garv’s Pick of the Week: All the Colors of Giallo [Blu-ray + DVD + CD / Severin Films]
: This three disc set is a dream package for lovers of Italian giallo thrillers of the 60s and 70s. The Blu-ray contains a new, feature-length documentary on the genre, 4+ hours of giallo trailers (with an audio commentary option), and interviews. The DVD focuses on the similar German Krimi genre, with 90 minutes of trailers. Finally, the CD is a compilation of music from various giallo soundtracks. That’s a lot of black-gloved, bloody fun.
Additional Titles of Interest —
All the Colors of the Dark [Blu-ray / Severin Films]
: Sergio Martino’s hallucinogenic giallo, starring the luminous Edwige Fenech, gets a new Blu-ray release, to accompany the documentary set above. The picture quality is supposed to be greatly improved versus the previous release from Shameless.
In the Heat of the Night [Blu-ray / Criterion]
: Here’s another title that is receiving an improved Blu-ray transfer, along with the typical Criterion extras. The prior Blu-ray release was purportedly pretty poor, so an upgrade was warranted.
Chronicle Of Anna Magdalena Bach [Blu-ray / Grasshopper Film]
: I’m unfamiliar with this 1968 B&W biopic of Johann Sebastian Bach, told from the point-of-view of his wife. However, this trailer looks pretty intriguing.
