Garv’s Pick of the Week: Detour (Criterion)
For the release week of March 19th:
Garv’s Pick of the Week: Detour [Blu-ray / Criterion]
: This low budget B-Noir has developed a deserved cult following, due to its brutal fatalism and creative use of its restricted resources. Now it looks and sounds better than ever due to an extensive 4K restoration. I saw it projected at The Film Forum, and I highly recommend adding it to your collection.
Additional Titles of Interest —
The Whole Town’s Talking [Blu-ray / Twilight Time]: John Ford directs Edward G. Robinson and Jean Arthur in this romantic comedy gangster film. Amazon links are not included for this title, as Twilight Time Blu-rays are exclusive to www.twilighttimemovies.comand www.screenarchives.com.
The Big Fix [Blu-ray / Twilight Time]: I love detective movies, so I’m interested in checking out this 1978 entry starring Richard Dreyfuss. This one is also a Twilight Time exclusive.
The Witches [Blu-ray / Scream Factory]
: More Hammer horror on Blu-ray is always welcome. Joan Fontaine encounters black magic in both Africa and England in this one.
Cleopatra Jones [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]
: Tamara Dobson is fierce as the special agent of the title.
Strip Nude For Your Killer [Blu-ray / Arrow Video]
: With a title like that, it has to be Giallo.
Doctor Who: Tom Baker Complete Season Seven [Blu-ray / BBC]
: Tom Baker’s first season of Doctor Who looked surprisingly good on Blu-ray. Now his final season gets the HD upgrade.
