Garv’s Pick of the Week: Anvil! The Story of Anvil (Utopia Distribution)
For the release week of January 17th:
Garv’s Pick of the Week: Anvil! The Story of Anvil [Blu-ray / Utopia Distribution]: This 2008 film about the Canadian heavy metal band Anvil is the closest to This is Spinal Tap that you will find in a real-life documentary. The film is funny, sad, sweet, and very well made. Although I’m not much of a metal fan, the music isn’t bad either. If you’re a fan of music documentaries or if you just like a good story well told, this movie is highly recommended. The “Ultimate Edition” Blu-ray is packed with extras, including multiple audio commentaries, interviews, deleted scenes, featurettes, and more.
Additional Titles of Interest —
Cloverfield [4K UHD / Paramount]: If you aren’t prone to motion sickness, this American Kaiju film is a lot of fun. If you are prone to motion sickness, the 4K UHD upgrade isn’t going to help.
They Live [4K UHD/ Scream Factory]: Roddy Piper is all out of bubble gum, but at least he’s in 4K UHD.
Lady Whirlwind & Hapkido [Blu-ray/ Arrow Video]: Two Hong Kong actioners from 1972, starring Angela Mao, are collected in this Blu-ray set from the “Criterion of Cult.”
Big Time Gambling Boss [Blu-ray / Radiance Films]: For me, most yakuza films seem to be more or less the same. however, I hear this is one of the better ones.
