Garv’s Pick of the Week: Atlantic City (Paramount)
For the release week of May 26th:
Garv’s Pick of the Week: Atlantic City [Blu-ray / Paramount]: Burt Lancaster has one of his best late-career roles, and Susan Sarandon has one of her best early career roles, in Louis Malle’s Atlantic City (1980).
Additional Titles of Interest —
Funeral in Berlin [Blu-ray / Paramount]: The Anti-James Bond, Harry Palmer (Michael Caine), is back in this sequel to The Ipcress File.
Husbands [Blu-ray / Criterion]: John Cassavetes, Peter Falk, and Ben Gazzara share the screen in this 1970 indie. Sounds good to me.
The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh [Blu-ray / Severin Films]: Giallo muse Edwige Fenech stars in one of the best of Sergio Martino’s Italian thrillers.
All Night Long [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: From everything I’ve heard, this comedy, starring Gene Hackman and Barbara Streisand, isn’t very good. However, I’m curious, because it was written by W.D. Richter, who penned Slither (1973), one of my favorite films of the Seventies.
Escape From L.A. [Blu-ray / Scream Factory]: Snake Plissken returns to get the Scream Factory Collector’s Edition treatment.
Taza, Son of Cochise 3-D [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Who knew that Douglas Sirk directed a 3-D Western? I guess, you do now.
