Garv’s Pick of the Week: Bedazzled (Twilight Time)

For the release week of February 19th:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: Bedazzled [Blu-ray / Twilight Time]: One of the smartest and funniest comedies of the 1960s finally gets a Blu-ray release.  The hilarious British comedy team of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore wrote the script and star in this Faustian farce, in which a fry cook (Moore) sells his soul to the Devil (Cook) for seven wishes, which he intends to use to win the girl of his dreams (Eleanor Bron).  The premise is perfect for the sketch comedy team, as it allows them to play a variety of characters and use numerous accents.  Cook is my favorite cinematic devil, and Raquel Welch is aptly cast in the role of “Lust.”  Amazon links are not included for this title, as Twilight Time Blu-rays are exclusive to www.twilighttimemovies.comand www.screenarchives.com.

Additional Titles of Interest —

Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter [Blu-ray / Twilight Time]: Animator turned director Frank Tashlin brings a cartoony touch to this satire of the advertising business.  Tony Randall and Jayne Mansfield star.  This is also a Twilight Time website exclusive.

Talk Radio [Blu-ray / Twilight Time]:  Eric Bogosian’s source material is so strong that even a director as bad as Oliver Stone cannot completely screw it up.  Again, you can pick this up exclusively at the two websites above.

My Name Is Julia Ross [Blu-ray / Arrow Academy]: Arrow Academy is releasing a couple of noirish suspense films by director Joseph H. Lewis this week.  This is the first.

So Dark The Night [Blu-ray / Arrow Academy]: And this is the second.

The Return Of The Vampire [Blu-ray / Scream Factory]: This was originally supposed to be Bela Lugosi’s return to the role of Dracula, but due to rights issues, the vampire’s name was changed.  Strangely, the vampire has a werewolf assistant.  You never know what to expect with vampires.

Mad Dog and Glory [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Robert DeNiro plays a shy police photographer who is gifted the companioship of Glory (Uma Thurman) after saving the life of a gangster/wannabe stand-up comic (Bill Murray).
