Garv’s Pick of the Week: Billy Budd (Warner Archive)
For the release week of July 10th:
Garv’s Pick of the Week: Billy Budd (1962) [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]
: I’ve never seen this literary adaptation that was directed by Peter Ustinov and introduced the world to Terence Stamp. However, Herman Melville is one of my favorite writers, and the B&W picture quality of the Blu-ray is said to be stunning, so this sounds like a safe blind buy.
Additional Titles of Interest —
Detective Bureau 2-3 Go to Hell Bastards! [Blu-ray / Arrow Video]
: Seijun Suzuki’s Japanese police action film wins the award for best movie title of the week.
Who Can Kill a Child? [Blu-ray / Mondo Macabro]
: This is a close second for best title.
A Bill Of Divorcement [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]
: More John Barrymore on Blu-ray is always a good thing (including the upcoming release of The Invisible Woman).
Dragon Inn [Blu-ray / Criterion]
: I’ve only seen the remake, which I enjoyed.
Bull Durham [Blu-ray / Criterion]
: “Strikeouts are boring. Besides that, they’re fascist.”
