Garv’s Pick of the Week: Even the Wind is Afraid (Hasta El Viento Tiene Miedo, VCI)

For the release week of February 11th:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: Even the Wind is Afraid (Hasta El Viento Tiene Miedo) [Blu-ray / VCI]: A ghost is out for revenge at an all-girls school in this 1968 cult film.  Many consider it the best Mexican horror film ever made, but up until now, it was difficult to see it with English subtitles.  Color me curious.

Additional Titles of Interest —

Fleabag: Season 1 [Blu-ray / Screen Media]: Being that there are only 12 episodes between the two seasons, I would have preferred a complete series release.  Still, this show rocks.  If you don’t have Amazon Prime, take the opportunity to see this fantastic series.

Blood and Sand [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: I’m always happy to see a silent film get a HD release.  However, Rudolph Valentino plays a bullfighter in this one.  Bullfighting—blecccchhh.

Guys and Dolls [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: Why, it’s good ole reliable Nathan, once again.  I believe this is the third Blu-ray release of the 1955 musical.  I’ve always had mixed feelings about this film.  Brando and Sinatra are miscast, and the film replaces some of the best songs from the Broadway show with inferior substitutions.  At the same time, many of the secondary roles are filled out by members of the original Broadway cast, and Stubby Kaye’s rendition of “Sit Down, Yer Rockin’ the Boat” is transcendent.
