Garv’s Pick of the Week: Eye of the Devil (Warner Archive)
For the release week of October 26th:
Garv’s Pick of the Week: Eye of the Devil [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: Fans of The Wicker Man (the 1973 original) may want to check out this lesser-known folk horror from 1966, regarding pagan rituals at a French estate. David Niven, Deborah Kerr, Sharon Tate, David Hemmings, and Donald Pleasence make up the primary cast.
Additional Titles of Interest —
Deep Red [Blu-ray / 4K UHD]: One of the greatest Italian gialli ever made and one of Dario Argento’s best films gets an upgrade to 4K UHD. Both cuts of the film are included in the package. Don’t watch this one late at night by yourself. I made that mistake.
An Angel for Satan [Blu-ray / Severin Films]: Speaking of Italian flicks, Barbara Steele’s final Italian gothic horror gets a Blu-ray edition this week.
Children of the Damned [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: I must think of a brick wall. I must think of a brick wall…
Dinner at Eight [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: John Barrymore, Wallace Beery, Jean Harlow, Lionel Barrymore, Billie Burke, and Marie Dressler gather for another Grand Hotel-like all-star MGM drama.
Fritz the Cat [Blu-ray / Scorpion Releasing]: Robert Crumb’s underground comic was adapted as an X-rated animated feature by Ralph Bakshi. Don’t watch this one with the kiddies. The sequel, The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat, is also getting a release this week.
The Suicide Squad [4K UHD / Warner Brothers]: James Gunn’s take of DC Comics’ Task Force X is a lot more enjoyable than the 2016 version.
Superman: The Complete Animated Series [Blu-ray / Warner Brothers]: Many fans of Superman consider this animated series to be the definitive adaptation of the comics.
The Incredible Hulk: The Complete Animated Series [Blu-ray / Universal]: Don’t make him angry. You wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.
