Garv’s Pick of the Week: I, the Jury (4K UHD + 3D Blu-ray + Blu-ray, ClassicFlix)
For the release week of November 8th:
I, the Jury [4K UHD + 3D Blu-ray + Blu-ray / ClassicFlix]: ClassicFlix enters the 4K UHD and 3D Blu-ray market with this special limited edition release of I, the Jury (1953), based on the Mickey Spillane novel of the same name. Personally, I hate Mickey Spillane’s writing, but this film adaptation makes a nice companion to 1957’s Kiss Me Deadly. The set contains a 4K UHD disc, a Blu-ray with the 3-D and 2-D presentation, along with a nice collection of extras (including a failed pilot for a Mike Hammer TV series, written by Blake Edwards and starring Brian Keith). I’ll post a full review soon, but be assured, the release is recommended.
Additional Titles of Interest —
Casablanca [4K UHD / Warner Brothers]: Claude Rains gives perhaps the greatest supporting performance in the history of cinema. See it now in 4K UHD.
Escape from Alcatraz [4K UHD / Kino Lorber]: Clint Eastwood and Don Siegel go to jail, go directly to jail, and don’t collect $200.
Fancy Pants [Blu-ray / Kino Lorberl]: Bob Hope and Lucille Ball teamed up for the second time (after 1949’s Sorrowful Jones) for this soggy 1950 musical remake of Ruggles of Red Gap (1935).
Bedtime for Bonzo [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Was Ronald Reagan a worse President or actor? You be the judge.
