Garv’s Pick of the Week: My Man Godfrey (Criterion)

For the release week of September 18th:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: My Man Godfrey [Blu-ray / Criterion]: One of the gems of the classic screwball comedy era gets a Blu-ray upgrade from Criterion.  Don’t settle for standard-definition public domain copies of this title (which are plentiful).  See this classic in this new, 4K digital restoration on Blu-ray, which is as close to the original silver nitrate print as you can get.

Additional Titles of Interest —

The Last Hurrah [Blu-ray / Twilight Time]: John Ford and Spencer Tracy team up for this tale of an old-fashioned political campaign during changing times.

The Bravados [Blu-ray / Twilight Time]: Gregory Peck re-teams with his director of The Gunfighter (1950), Henry King, for this Western tale of revenge.

Cabin Boy [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Chris Elliott stars in this infamous cult comedy of fancy lads, clean pipes, mystical creatures, and monkey salesmen.  A full review will be posted here soon.

The Pyjama Girl Case [Blu-ray / Arrow Video]: Nobody does a better job at releasing lesser-known giallo titles than Arrow Video.  This also looks like a very nice package.

The Hired Hand [Blu-ray / Arrow Video]: Peter Fonda’s directorial debut is an atypical Western starring Fonda and the always reliable Warren Oates.  I’ve never seen it, but I’m intrigued.
