Garv’s Pick of the Week: Star Trek: The Original Motion Picture 6-Movie Collection (4K UHD, Paramount)
For the release week of September 6th:
Star Trek: The Original Motion Picture 6-Movie Collection [4K UHD / Paramount]: The six Star Trek movies starring the cast of the original television series get a 4K UHD upgrade. This is probably the final frontier for these titles on physical media. Included in the collection are Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984), Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986), Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989), and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991). Both the Theatrical and Director’s Cuts are included for the first, second, and sixth films in the series. Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnn!!!
Additional Titles of Interest —
Blow Out [4K UHD / Criterion]: Brian De Palma’s 1981 thriller also gets upgraded to 4K UHD. John Travolta, Nancy Allen, and John Lithgow star.
Paravision Dreams: The Golden Age 3-D Films of Pine and Thomas [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: The team at the 3-D Film Archive have done incredible work restoring and releasing 3-D titles from the classic era. However, some of their releases have gone out of print. To help right that wrong, Kino Lorber has repackaged the Blu-rays of Sangaree (1953), Those Redheads from Seattle (1953), and Jivaro (1954) in this box set.
Twice Told Tales [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Kino is also rereleasing a couple of out-of-print Edgar Allan Poe adaptations, starring the immortal Vincent Price. This one, directed by Roger Corman and written by Richard Matheson, is the better of the two.
The Oblong Box [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: This one was directed by Gordon “Cry of the Banshee” Hessler.
