Garv’s Pick of the Week: Sweet Charity (Kino Lorber)
For the release week of August 20th:
Garv’s Pick of the Week: Sweet Charity [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]
: Hey, big spender! Bob Fosse’s directorial debut was a box office bomb, but it contains some amazing dance numbers, fantastic songs, and a scene-stealing performance by Sammy Davis Jr. I’ve also heard that the picture quality of the Blu-ray is stunning. I can’t wait to get my hands on this release!
Additional Titles of Interest —
The Buster Keaton Collection: Volume 3 (Seven Chances / Battling Butler) [Blu-ray / Cohen Film Collection]
: The new 4K restorations of Buster Keaton’s silent classics continue to receive double-feature Blu-ray releases from Cohen. These all will be mine. Oh, yes, they will be mine.
Uncle Tom's Cabin [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]
: The 1927 silent adaptation Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel gets a 2K restoration.
Last Year at Marienbad [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]
: Haven’t we met before?
Magnificent Obsession [Blu-ray / Criterion]
: The story is crazy, but the lighting is nice.
The Witches [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]
: A Roald Dahl story directed by Nicholas Roeg. It’s gonna get weird.
Horror of Frankenstein [Blu-ray / Scream Factory]
: This is the only Hammer Frankenstein film that doesn’t feature Peter Cushing in the role of the Doctor. That’s a huge black mark against it; but it’s Hammer, so I’ll probably pick it up.
Billy the Kid vs. Dracula [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]
: A surprising number of John Ford regulars show up for this grade-Z Western/horror mashup.
