Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Long, Long Trailer (Warner Archive)
For the release week of January 24th:
Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Long, Long Trailer [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: During the run of I Love Lucy, Lucy and Desi also found time to film this 1954 Technicolor road comedy. The movie was written by Albert Hackett & Frances Goodrich, the husband and wife team responsible for the scripts of the early Thin Man movies, and it was directed by Vincente Minnelli (Meet Me in St. Louis, The Band Wagon, etc.). No shortage of talent there. I remember that The Long, Long Trailer used to air regularly on broadcast television when I was a kid, but I haven’t seen it since. It should be interesting to revisit. Today, the film is probably best remembered for a reference in the lyrics of the song “Everything Right is Wrong Again” by They Might Be Giants.

Wife vs. Secretary [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: Myrna Loy, Clark Gable, and Jean Harlow form a romantic triangle in this light, romantic comedy from MGM (the studio where comedy went to die).
