Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Man Between (Kino Lorber)
For the release week of November 5th:
Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Man Between [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: It’s a bit of a slow week for classic film releases, but Kino rides to the rescue with some interesting British and American films noir. The one that stands out to me is The Man Between, director Carol Reed’s 1953 return to the post-World War II Berlin of his 1949 triumph The Third Man. I’m not familiar with this film, but The Third Man is my favorite noir, so color me intrigued.
Additional Titles of Interest —
It Always Rains on Sunday [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: This well-regarded British noir was produced by Ealing Studios, best known for their clever comedies.
Naked Alibi [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: It doesn’t get much noirier than Sterling Hayden and Gloria Grahame.
Woman in Hiding [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Of course, Ida Lupino is no noir slouch.
Seven Days To Noon [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: British noir meets the atomic bomb.
Hitchcock: British International Pictures Collection [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Five early British films display Alfred Hitchcock’s transition from the silent era to the talkies. This set includes The Ring, The Farmer’s Wife, Champagne, The Manxman, and The Skin Game.
