Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Plague Dogs (Shout Select)
For the release week of January 15th:
Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Plague Dogs [Blu-ray / Shout Select]
: As a dog lover, I don’t think I can watch this animated adaptation of the Richard Adams novel, because just reading the synopsis makes me tear up. Still, Shout Select deserves high praise for delaying this release when they were informed that elements from the longer 103-minute version might be available. Consequently, this Blu-ray includes both the 85-minute theatrical version and the 103-minute extended cut.
Additional Titles of Interest —
Notorious [Blu-ray / Criterion]
: One of Hitchcock’s best gets a Criterion Blu-ray packed with extras, including two audio commentaries.
The Glass Key [Blu-ray / Shout Select]
: The second film adaptation of Dashiell Hammett’s novel features the second pairing of the legendary screen team of Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake.
The Plague Of The Zombies [Blu-ray / Scream Factory]
: One of Hammer’s best horrors finally gets a U.S. Blu-ray.
The Forbidden Photos Of A Lady Above Suspicion [Blu-ray / Arrow Video]
: I haven’t seen this one, but Arrow Video always does a great job with Italian gialli of the 60s and 70s.
Knives of the Avenger [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]
: Two of Mario Bava’s lesser-known films get Blu-ray releases from Kino Lorber this week. In this one, Cameron Mitchell is a knife wielding Viking.
Four Times That Night [Blu-ray/ Kino Lorber]
: The other Mario Bava film is his only sex comedy. The incidents of an evening encounter are told from four separate points of view, Rashoman-style.
