Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Tree of Life (Criterion)

For the release week of September 11th:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Tree of Life [Blu-ray / Criterion]: If you didn’t think Terrence Malick’s meditation on the human experience was long enough, I have good news for you.  Criterion’s new Blu-ray contains an extended version with 50 minutes of additional footage (along with the original theatrical version).  The wisdom of lengthening an already long film is questionable, but the original version contained some amazingly beautiful, unforgettable images.  Who knows what additional eye candy will be revealed?

Additional Titles of Interest —

Christine [4K UHD / Sony]: Stephen King’s killer car gets suped up with a 4K UHD release.

Big Wednesday [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: John Milius’ opus of Sixties and Seventies surf catches a wave to Blu-ray.

Karloff & Lugosi Horror Classics [DVD / Warner Archive]: The out-of-print DVD set containing The Walking Dead, Frankenstein 1970,  You’ll Find Out, and Zombies on Broadway lives again, thanks to the Warner Archive.

Boris Karloff Collection [DVD / VCI Entertainment]: Four of Boris Karloff’s final films, Alien Terror, Cult Of The Dead, Dance Of Death, Torture Zone, make it to DVD in a set from VCI.  In terms of quality, these are near the bottom of the barrel, so this set is for Karloff super-fans only.
