Garv’s Pick of the Week: Tom & Jerry Golden Collection Volume One

For the release week of March 17th:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: Tom & Jerry Golden Collection Volume One [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: When one thinks of the great animation studios of the golden age of Hollywood, Disney and Warner Brothers immediately spring to mind. However, in the 1940s the Best Animated Short Oscar was awarded to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer more than any other studio; and all but one of those awards were for cartoons starring a blue-gray cat and a brown mouse.  This is a reissue of a long-out-of-print Blu-ray set of the first 37 Tom & Jerry cartoons (1940-1948), which was originally released in 2011.  The original set was one of the most beautiful animation packages ever presented on disc.  It has been commanding inflated prices from re-sellers, so this is your chance to own these classic cartoons at a reasonable price.  Hopefully, this is an indication that the Warner Archive is working on the much-anticipated Volume Two.  A word of caution — The cartoons are presented uncut, preserving politically incorrect content, including ethnic stereotypes that were a product of their time.

Additional Titles of Interest —
