Garv’s Pick of the Week: Tony Curtis Collection (Kino Lorber)

For the release week of August 4th:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: Tony Curtis Collection [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Kino Lorber Studio Classics has recently begun collecting lesser-known movies from popular Hollywood stars in 3-disc Blu-ray box sets.  One of the most anticipated is the Tony Curtis Collection, as it contains three titles from Curtis’ filmography that collectors have been asking for in high definition.  The set contains The Perfect Furlough (1958), which is an early Blake Edwards film, The Great Impostor (1961), which is a cult favorite that would pair nicely with Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can, and 40 Pounds of Trouble (1962), which was the first feature film to shoot inside Disneyland.

Additional Titles of Interest —

Audie Murphy Collection [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: This 3-disc set collects the Westerns The Duel at Silver Creek (1952), Ride a Crooked Trail (1958), and No Name on the Bullet (1959).

Carole Lombard Collection I [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Before Carole Lombard was known for her screwball comedy chops, she starred in several pre-code dramas.  Three are collected here: Fast and Loose (1930), Man of the World (1931), and No Man of Her Own (1932).

Doctor Who: Tom Baker – Complete Season Three [Blu-ray / BBC]: All six storylines (including fan favorite The Talons of Weng-Chiang) from the third season of Tom Baker’s run as Doctor Who are presented here in (mostly upconverted) high definition.
