Garv’s Pick of the Week: Wild Rovers (Warner Archive)

For the release week of February 26th:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: Wild Rovers [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: Blake Edwards disowned his elegiac Western when MGM cut the original 1971 theatrical release by 40 minutes and changed the ending.  Based on the running time of 137 minutes, it appears that this Blu-ray release is the reconstructed Roadshow version which includes all of the surviving cut footage, along with the overture, intermission card, entr’acte, and exit music.

Additional Titles of Interest —

Used Cars [Blu-ray / Shout Select]: Robert Zemeckis’ cult comedy from the 80s received a prior Blu-ray from Twilight Time, but that release sold out.  Shout Select is giving fans a second chance to pick up the title.  Kurt Russell and Jack Warden star as unscrupulous used car salesmen.

Stand-In [Blu-ray / ClassicFlix]: Leslie Howard and Joan Blondell star in this Hollywood satire, with Humphrey Bogart in a rare comedy supporting role.

To Sleep with Anger [Blu-ray /Criterion]: Danny Glover stars in Charles Burnett’s 1990 drama about a charismatic drifter who stirs up trouble for a South-Central California family.

Next of Kin [Blu-ray / Severin Films]: I know very little about this Ozploitation horror film, but the trailer looks very intriguing.

The Mole People [Blu-ray /Scream Factory]: This 1956 sci-fi horror from Universal Studios gets farmed out to Scream Factory.

The Vengeance Of She [Blu-ray / Scream Factory]: It’s always nice to see a Hammer horror film getting a Blu-ray release, but this is a decidedly lesser title.
