Garv’s Pick of the Week: Wild Things (4K UHD, Arrow Video)
For the release week of May 24th:
Garv’s Pick of the Week: Wild Things [4K UHD / Arrow Video]: Both the theatrical and unrated versions of John McNaughton’s sexy, twisty, thriller get an upgrade to 4K UHD, with the usual Criterion-level extras, from Arrow Video. Kevin Bacon, Matt Dillon, Neve Campbell, Denise Richards, and Theresa Russell star, with appearances by Bill Murray and Robert Wagner.
Additional Titles of Interest —
One-Armed Boxer [Blu-ray / Arrow Video]: Writer/director/star Jimmy Wang Yu takes center stage in this classic Golden Harvest martial arts actioner.
Flower Drum Song [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: I love movie musicals. That said, I’m not much of a fan of Rodgers & Hammerstein (Oklahoma, South Pacific, The King & I, The Sound of Music). Consequently, I haven’t seen Flower Drum Song. However, if you are a fan, I hear that the new 2K restoration is a big improvement over the previous DVD release. Nancy Kwan stars, supported by a mostly Asian-American cast.
Lifeforce [4K UHD / Scream Factory]: Tobe Hooper’s space vampires get a 4K UHD upgrade.
The Batman [4K UHD / Warner Brothers]: Matt Reeves’ 3-hour noir detective take on the comic book hero is one of the better DC Comics movies. It’s even better at home, where you can take bathroom breaks.
