Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Devil Rides Out (Scream Factory)
For the release week of October 29th:
Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Devil Rides Out [Blu-ray / Scream Factory]: Richard Matheson adapted Dennis Wheatley’s novel of devil worship and black magic. The result was one of the best (if not the best) of the classic Hammer horror films, which gave Christopher Lee a rare hero role. It was also released under the title The Devil’s Bride.
Additional Titles of Interest —
Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films, 1954-1975 [Blu-ray / Criterion]: History shows again and again how nature points out the folly of man. For Kaiju fans, this is easily the week’s top release. The first 15 Godzilla films are packaged together in an eight Blu-ray box set.
Mr. Nice Guy [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: The complete, original version of this Sammo Hung-directed Jackie Chan film gets a U.S. release for the first time.
The Blob (1958) [Blu-ray / Scream Factory]: This remake is better than the original.
Man of a Thousand Faces [Blu-ray / Arrow Video]: James Cagney stars in another biopic. No dancing this time, though.
An American Werewolf in London [Blu-ray / Arrow Video]: John Landis’ werewolf flick is great, but at this point, it has received nearly as many video releases as The Evil Dead.
Batman Beyond: The Complete Animated Series Limited Edition [Blu-ray / Warner Brothers]: Old Bruce Wayne trains a Batman for a new generation. This series is better than most live action superhero movies.
Wizard of Oz [4K UHD / Warner Brothers]: The teeth of the flying monkeys are even sharper in 4K UHD.
