Garv’s Pick of the Week: Der Hund von Baskerville [Blu-ray / Flicker Alley]: The last Sherlock Holmes movie filmed during the silent era was long presumed lost, but now thanks to Flicker Alley, Filmoteka Narodowa, and the San Francisco Silent Film Festival you can have a copy of your own. The trailer (embedded above) is a stunner.

The Fifth Cord [Blu-ray / Arrow Video]: I’m looking forward to blind buying this disc. Luigi Bazzoni’s giallo tends to be ranked very highly for fans of Italian thrillers. Franco Nero stars.
Diamonds for Breakfast [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Marcello Mastroianni stars in this light-hearted heist film about an attempt to steal the Russian crown jewels.
A Countess From Hong Kong [Blu-ray / Universal]: Charles Chaplin’s last film is a lackluster romantic comedy, starring Sophia Loren and Marlon Brando. While the movie is so-so, the score (also written by Chaplin) is fantastic. Chaplin completists (like me) will definitely want to add this disc to their collections.
Kotch [Blu-ray Kino Lorber]: Jack Lemmon directed his pal, Walter Matthau, to an Oscar nomination with this sentimental tale of a senior citizen.
Zachariah [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: The first acid Western. Far out, man.
Shame [Blu-ray / Criterion]: Ingrid Bergman’s civil war drama gets a stand-alone Blu-ray release. However, fans of the director will probably already have the disc as part of Criterion’s giant Bergman box set.
The Benji Collection [Blu-ray / Mill Creek]: The first three films starring the scruffy little dog are collected here.
