Garv’s Pick of the Week: Airplane! (Paramount Presents)

For the release week of July 21st:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: Airplane! [Blu-ray / Paramount Presents]: The greatest spoof movie of all time is getting a re-release from a new 4K restoration?  Surely, you can’t be serious.  The Zucker-Abrahms-Zucker parody/remake of Zero Hour! (1957) is getting a prestige re-release under the “Paramount Presents” Blu-ray label.  If you don’t know how Airplane! corresponds to Zero Hour!, check out the video embedded above.

Additional Titles of Interest —

Horror Thrillers: 4-Film Collection [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]If you don’t already own the Warner Archive Blu-rays of Wolfen (1981), The Hunger (1983), Innocent Blood (1992), and Body Snatchers (1993), you can save a little money and shelf space by picking them up in this compact 4-Blu-ray set.

Spartacus [4K UHD / Universal]Kubrick’s 1960 work-for-hire sword-and-sandal epic gets a 4K UHD upgrade.

Arabian Nights [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]When you add Shemp Howard to a Technicolor adventure film, you have my interest.

Against All Flags [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]Errol Flynn was 43 when he made this pirate swashbuckler, and it was a hard 43.  He looks like he could be the father of 32 year-old co-star Maureen O’Hara.
