Garv’s Pick of the Week: Day of the Outlaw (Kino Lorber)

For the release week of August 27th:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: Day of the Outlaw [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: This tense, noirish snow Western has similarities to Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight.  A group of outlaws, led by Burl Ives take a town hostage, while Robert Ryan tries to keep the citizens from getting killed.  Tina “TV’s Ginger” Louise makes an unlikely Western love interest.

Additional Titles of Interest —

Man Without a Star [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Kirk Douglas hates barbed wire.

Jezebel [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: Bette Davis wears a red dress in a Black & White movie.  Shocking!

Fear in the Night (1974) [Blu-ray / Scream Factory]: Judy Geeson stars in this psychological thriller from Hammer’s house of horror.  Peter Cushing and Joan Collins lend support, which might be enough to make it worth a look.

The Leech Woman [Blu-ray / Scream Factory]: She may be a leech woman, but her husband is no prize either.

The Vanishing Shadow [Blu-ray / VCI]: Ray guns, robots, and cliffhangers enliven this 12-chapter serial.
