Garv’s Pick of the Week: Fireman, Save My Child (Warner Archive)

For the release week of April 3rd:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: Fireman, Save My Child [MOD DVD / Warner Archive]: Rubber-faced comedian Joe E. Brown is best remembered today for his supporting role as millionaire Osgood Fielding III in Billy Wilder’s Some Like It Hot (1959).  However, long before Brown chased the skirts of Jack Lemmon, he was one of the most popular comedians of the Depression era.  Brown also harbored a deep love for baseball, so he used the “Great American Pastime” as the focus for a loose trilogy of comedies — Fireman, Save My Child (1932), Elmer the Great (1933), and Alibi Ike (1935). To coincide with the beginning of baseball season, The Warner Archive Collection  is releasing the first of these titles as a manufacture-on-demand DVD (the other two films were previously released).  In this one, Joe E. Brown plays a a full-time firefighter and a part-time pitcher who gets hired by the St. Louis Cardinals but would much rather be fighting fires.
