Garv’s Pick of the Week: Hammer Films The Ultimate Collection [Blu-ray / Mill Creek]: Mill Creek is releasing several multi-film Blu-ray box sets this week. The most anticipated and largest is this Hammer films box set, including 20 movies, spread across 10 Blu-ray discs. Die! My Darling!, and Creatures the World Forgot. The set also includes a featurette on Hammer titles released by Columbia in the U.S. An excerpt from that extra is embedded above.

Additional Titles of Interest —

Rita Hayworth The Ultimate Collection [Blu-ray / Mill Creek]: 12 movies starring the silver screen goddess born Margarita Carmen Cansino are spread across 6 Blu-ray discs.  The included films are Music in My Heart, You’ll Never Get Rich, Tonight and Every Night, Down to Earth, The Lady from Shanghai, The Loves of Carmen, Affair in Trinidad, Salome, Miss Sadie Thompson, Fire Down Below, Pal Joey, and They Came to Cordura.

Inner Sanctum Mysteries [Blu-ray / Mill Creek]: All 6 films based on the popular 1940s horror anthology radio show are spread across 3 Blu-rays. The included films — Calling Dr. Death, Weird Woman, Dead Man’s Eyes, The Frozen Ghost, Strange Confession, and Pillow of Death — all star Lon Chaney Jr.

Alfred Hitchcock: 4-Film Collection [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: Dial M for Murder 3D, I Confess, The Wrong Man, and Suspicion have all been released on Blu-ray previously. However, if you haven’t already picked them up, you can save some money and shelf space with this 4-Blu-ray collection.

Rio Grande [Blu-ray / Olive Signature]The third film in John Ford’s loosely connected cavalary trilogy gets the Olive Signature treatment.

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai [Blu-ray / Criterion]This might be my favorite Jim Jarmusch film.

Silent Running [Blu-ray / Arrow Video]: Special effects guru Douglas Trumbull (2001: A Space Odyssey) made his directorial debut with this ecological sci-fi flick.

Dragnet [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]This is the original 1954 theatrical film version of the popular radio and TV series starring Jack Webb, rather than the Dan Ackroyd spoof.
