Garv’s Pick of the Week: Heaven Can Wait (Criterion)

For the release week of August 21st:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: Heaven Can Wait [Blu-ray / Criterion]: Not to be confused with the 1978 Warren Beatty film of the same name (which is actually a remake of Here Comes Mr. Jordon), Criterion is releasing this sophisticated comedy by the great Ernst Lubitsch.  As a comedy nerd, this is a “must buy”.

Additional Titles of Interest —

The Hot Rock [Blu-ray / Twilight Time]: Donald Westlake’s hilarious comic heist novel (the first of his Dortmunder series), gets a pretty good film adaptation.  Afghanistan bananastand.

Ash Vs. Evil Dead: Season 3 [Blu-Ray + Digital / Lionsgate]: Bruce Campbell’s run as Ash Williams ends here.  Hail to the King, Baby!

The Tingler [Blu-ray / Scream Factory]: This classic cult film will also be part of Indicator’s William Castle Blu-ray box set.  Which release will be better?  Oh, the travails of the obsessive video hoarder.  Scream!  Scream for your lives!

Mid-Century Modern Animation Volume 1 [Blu-ray / Thunderbean]: Thunderbean always uncovers interesting animated rarities for their releases.

Mid-Century Modern Animation, Volume 2 [Blu-ray / Thunderbean]: Ditto.

Wild at Heart [Blu-ray / Shout Select]: I haven’t seen David Lynch’s Wizard of Oz riff since its original theatrical release.  I remember hating it back then.  Maybe it’s time to rewatch and reassess.
