Garv’s Pick of the Week: Hercules in the Haunted World (Kino Lorber)

For the release week of October 8th:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: Hercules in the Haunted World [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: This movie has something for everyone — Feats of strength, masked oracles, a rock monster, candy-colored lighting, reanimated corpses, and Christopher Lee.  Peplum, or Sword & Sandal pictures, generally don’t appeal to me, but director Mario Bava can make any material sing.

Additional Titles of Interest —

Three Silent Classics by Josef von Sternberg (Underworld / The Last Command / The Docks of New York) [Blu-ray / Criterion]: Before he made Marlene Dietrich a star, Josef von Sternberg made these silent classics.

From Beyond the Grave [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: The last of Amicus’ horror anthology movies features four short stories with Peter Cushing tying them all together.

The Monster (a.k.a. Il Mostro) [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Roberto Benigni is a guy who is mistaken for s serial killer, because he acts like Roberto Benigni.

Deadwood: The Movie [Blu-ray / HBO]: The best television show of all time gets the ending it deserves.

Shazam! The Complete Live-Action Series [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: This is not the best television show of all time, but I liked it when I was seven.
