For the release week of January 7th :
Garv’s Pick of the Week: Holiday [Blu-ray / Criterion]: Two years prior to The Philadelphia Story, Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn co-starred in another film from the same writers and director. Personally, I’m a bigger fan of Holiday than the more famous follow-up, so I’m overjoyed it is getting the exposure of a prestige Criterion release. This film also gives audiences a rare look at Cary Grant’s talents as an acrobat.

Brick [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: If you enjoyed Rian Johnson’s Knives Out (which I consider the most entertaining film of last year), you may want to check out his previous mystery movie, which sets a noirish mystery in a high school.
Doctor Cyclops [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Dr. Cyclops has two eyes, and nothing makes sense anymore.
The Hellbenders [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Kino gives us three Euro-Westerns this week. The first two come from Sergio Corbucci. This 1967 entry is classed up by Mercury Theatre alum Joseph Cotten.
The Specialists [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: This 1969 Corbucci film is a revenge Western with a no name cast.
Kill Them All and Come Back Alone [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Keoma director Enzo G. Castellari helmed this 1968 Italian Western in which The Rifleman’s Chuck Connors leads a Dirty Dozen-like squad on a Confederate mission to steal gold from the Union army.
The Lighthouse [Blu-ray / Lionsgate]: Robert Eggers’ follow-up to 2015’s The VVitch won’t be everyone’s cup of chum, but it is undeniably one of the most beautifully made films of 2019.
