Garv’s Pick of the Week: Irma La Douce (Kino Lorber)

For the release week of July 17th:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: Irma La Douce [Blu-ray /Kino Lorber]: Billy Wilder’s biggest hit isn’t his best film, but it is a delightful confection, with Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine at their most appealing and with a scene-stealing performance by Lou Jacobi. It is basically a musical without songs, but not without music (because the score by André Previn is magnificent).

Additional Titles of Interest —

The Quick and the Dead [4K UHD / Sony]: Sam Raimi’s Western gets a 4K upgrade, so now you can see the sunlight through the bullet holes with crystal clarity.

The Case of the Scorpion's Tail [Blu-ray / Arrow Video]: This Sergio Martino giallo is supposed to be one of his best.  I’m looking forward to checking it out.

The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: You want to see Paul Newman drink with a bear?  You know you do.

Isle of Dogs [Blu-ray / 20th Century Fox]: Do I purchase it now or wait for the inevitable Criterion release?
