Garv’s Pick of the Week: Last Train From Gun Hill (Paramount Presents)
For the release week of June 15th:
Garv’s Pick of the Week: Last Train From Gun Hill [Blu-ray/ Paramount Presents]: Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn face off in John Sturges 1959 Western. Paramount is giving this one a prestige release, with a Blu-ray taken from a new 6K restoration and scan from the original VistaVision negative, a featurette with Leonard Maltin, and collectible packaging featuring a foldout image of the film’s theatrical poster and an interior spread with key movie moments.
Additional Titles of Interest —
Guns for San Sebastian [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: Anthony Quinn also stars in this Euro-Western with an Ennio Morricone score. Charles Bronson provides support.
Ziegfeld Follies [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: This MGM musical-comedy-variety spectacular is worth the price of admission for Red Skelton’s “Guzzler’s Gin” sketch alone. Also, a couple of guys named Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly dance together for the first time on film.
The Awakening [Blu-ray / Scream Factory]: Chuck Heston (or Cheston, as I like to call him) stars in his only true horror film.
Parks and Recreation: The Complete Series [Blu-ray / Universal]: Mike Schur’s comedy of local public service was a bit wobbly during it’s first season, but it grew into one of the best sitcoms of the first couple of decades of the 21st Century.
