Garv’s Pick of the Week: Remember the Night (Universal)

For the release week of November 6th:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: Remember the Night [Blu-ray / Universal]: Any new release of a film written by Preston Sturges automatically ranks “Pick of the Week” status (even if that film wasn’t directed by Sturges himself).  If you are looking for a new Christmas tradition, I would recommend this holiday dramedy, starring the Double Indemnity team of Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck and written by the wittiest screenwriter in Hollywood history.

Additional Titles of Interest —

A Man Alone [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Ray Milland directs and stars in this offbeat Western with film noir touches.  By the way, this is one of the titles featured in the great, new book Renegade Westerns.

Dick [Blu-ray / Sony]: This very smart dumb comedy about Watergate deserves a bigger audience.

Man's Favorite Sport? [Blu-ray / Universal]: I haven’t seen this late-career Howard Hawks comedy, but it’s Howard F’n Hawks, so it’s worth checking out.

Superman: The Movie [4K UHD / Warner Brothers]: You will believe a man can fly in 4K Ultra High Definition.

BlacKkKlansman [4K UHD / Universal]: My personal favorite film of the year thus far, and Spike Lee’s best, hits home video this week.  This is the film that we need right now.
