Garv’s Pick of the Week: Sergio Leone Westerns – Five Film Collection (Kino Lorber)

For the release week of March 3rd:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: Sergio Leone Westerns – Five Film Collection [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Sergio Corbucci may have been the second-best director of Spaghetti Westerns, but Sergio Leone was the best (by a huge margin).  All of Leone’s Westerns are collected here — A Fistful of Dollars; For a Few Dollars More; The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly; Once Upon a Time in the West; and A Fistful of Dynamite (a.k.a. Duck, You Sucker).  These are amongst the most epic, iconic, and beautiful Westerns ever made, and (in my opinion) Once Upon a Time in the West is, quite simply, the best.

Additional Titles of Interest —

The Captain’s Paradise / Barnacle Bill [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Alec Guinness starred in these two nautical-themed comedies during his “British comedy star” period.  They aren’t Ealing, but they’re Ealing-like.

Kansas City [Blu-ray / Arrow Academy]: One of the most idiosyncratic directors in film history (Robert Altman) meets one of the most idiosyncratic actors in the modern era (Jennifer Jason Leigh).  The result — jazz.

Up [4K UHD / Disney]: Several classic Pixar titles are getting a 4K Ultra HD upgrade this week.  Up is my favorite of the bunch (and my favorite Pixar film, period.)
