Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Bounty (Kino Lorber)

For the release week of January 1st:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Bounty (Special Edition) [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: All of the film depictions of the mutiny aboard the H.M.S. Bounty have been good.  This one, the fourth version, stars Mel Gibson as Fletcher Christian and Anthony Hopkins as Captain Bligh.  The supporting cast isn’t bad either — Laurence Olivier, Edward Fox, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Liam Neeson among them.

Additional Titles of Interest —

The Appaloosa (Special Edition) [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: In this lesser-known Western, Marlon Brando plays a buffalo hunter who goes on a trail of revenge after the Mexican bandit (John Saxon) who stole his horse.

Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here (Special Edition) [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Robert Redford leads a manhunt for an indian (Robert Blake) who is on the run after he kills a man in self-defense.  Set in 1909, this twilight Western also features John Vernon, which is always a good thing.

Bad Times At The El Royale [4K UHD / 20th Century Fox]: I missed this 2018 release in theaters, but I loved Drew Goddard’s previous film, Cabin in the Woods.  I know some critics thought it was overlong, but at home you can take as many bathroom breaks as you deem necessary.
