Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Cat O’ Nine Tails (Arrow Video)

For the release week of March 6th:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Cat O' Nine Tails: Limited Edition [Blu-ray + DVD / Arrow Video]: Dario Argento’s follow-up to his directorial debut, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, gets the Arrow Video limited edition Blu-ray/DVD combo treatment.  The second in the director’s so-called “Animal Trilogy,” The Cat o’ Nine Tails is a giallo about a pair of amateur detectives, including Karl Malden as a blind puzzle-maker, who investigate a robbery, which leads to a series of murders.  If you are interested in the limited edition, with the lobby card reproductions, poster, booklet, and other extras, act fast.  The limited edition has sold out at most retailers.  A standard edition will likely follow in a few months.

Additional Titles of Interest —

A Fistful of Dynamite, a.k.a. Duck, You Sucker [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Sergio Leone followed his masterpiece, Once Upon a Time in the West, with a another Spaghetti Western that was merely very good.  Still, for fans of Leone’s work, this new Blu-ray is a “must own.”

Topaze [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: The great John Barrymore plays a mild-mannered professor who learns a lesson in the unscrupulous ways of the business world.  With a script by Ben Hecht and a supporting performance by Myrna Loy, this sounds right up my alley.

The Dark Crystal [4K UHD / Sony]: Jim Henson’s creepiest creation gets a 4K upgrade.

Hammer Films Double Feature Vol. 3 Maniac, Die! Die! My Darling! [Blu-ray / Mill Creek]: A pair of thrillers from Britain’s legendary Hammer Studios get a budget, bare-bones release from Mill Creek.

Hammer Films Double Feature Vol. 4: Never Take Candy From a Stranger, Scream of Fear [Blu-ray / Mill Creek]: Ditto.
