Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Death of Stalin (Paramount)

For the release week of June 19th:

Garv’s Pick of the Week:  The Death of Stalin [DVD / Paramount]: Armando Iannucci’s pitch black satire is my favorite film of the year.  You can access my full review here.  Unfortunately, Paramount is only releasing the film on DVD and Digital in the U.S.  No Blu-ray is scheduled.  However, if you have a region-free Blu-ray player, there is a Region-B Blu-ray available.

Additional Titles of Interest —

Doctor Who: Tom Baker Complete Season One [Blu-ray / BBC]: Have a jelly baby?  Future full season Blu-ray sets of classic Doctor Who will be dependent on how well this first collection sells, so you have your marching orders, Whovians.

The Woman in the Window [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Noir master Fritz Lang tightens the noose around the neck of a college professor (Edward G. Robinson) after a harmless flirtation with an artist’s model (Joan Bennett).

2 Weeks in Another Town [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: Vincente Minnelli’s spiritual sequel to The Bad and the Beautiful (1952) gets an HD release.

Under Capricorn [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Lesser Hitchcock is still Hitchcock.

Let’s Make Love [Blu-ray / Twilight Time]: Marilyn Monroe’s second-to-last film, isn’t great; but it does have the very sexy “My Heart Belongs to Daddy” number.

Night Of The Lepus [Blu-ray / Shout! Factory]: Giant, killer bunny rabbits.  What more do I have to say?
