Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Man in the White Suit (Kino Lorber)

For the release week of September 3rd:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Man in the White Suit [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Three classic comedies from England’s fabled Ealing Studios, all starring a young Alec Guinness, are making their Region A Blu-ray debut this week.  Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949) is the most celebrated and The Lavender Hill Mob (1951) is the most famous, but The Man in the White Suit (1951) is my favorite of the three.  Guinness invents an stain-resistant, indestructible fabric, which threatens to destroy the garment industry.  Joan Greenwood and her marvelous voice co-star.

Additional Titles of Interest —

Kind Hearts and Coronets [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: In this classic dark comedy, a poor, distant relative of a Duke can win the title if he murders the eight heirs ahead of him.  Dennis Price is the ambitious, poor relation, and Alec Guinness plays all eight of the heirs standing in his way.

The Lavender Hill Mob [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: A bank clerk (Guinness again) masterminds a robbery of a delivery of gold bars in this heist comedy directed by Charles Crichton (A Fish Called Wanda).

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!: The Complete Series Limited Edition 50th Ann Mystery Mansion [Blu-ray / Warner Brothers]: All 41 original series episodes on Blu-ray with digital copy, extras, Funko keychain, and book, inside a “mystery mansion” display package!  Zoinks!!!

Elvira: Mistress of the Dark [Blu-ray / RLJ Entertainment]: Hey, her eyes are up here!
