Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Pirates of Penzance (Universal)

For the release week of August 14th:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Pirates of Penzance [Blu-ray / Universal]: This is a very personal selection for me, as this film sparked my love and obsession with the works of Gilbert and Sullivan.  It may not be one of the great movie musicals, but it is undeviably fun, and Sir Arthur Sullivan’s music is unmatched.

Additional Titles of Interest —

The Lonely Guy [Blu-ray / Universal]: Steve Martin’s brand of “smartly stupid” or “stupidly smart” comedy meets the typewriter of Neil Simon.  Surprisingly, it mostly works.

What Have They Done to Your Daughters? [Blu-ray / Arrow Video]: With a title like that it must be a giallo.  And, I hear it’s a good one.

Return Of The Living Dead Part II [Collector’s Edition] [Blu-ray / Scream Factory]: Brains!

Home from the Hill [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: Robert Mitchum directed by Vincente Minnelli.  What’s not to love?
