Garv’s Pick of the Week: They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? (Kino Lorber Studio Classics)

For the release week of 9/5/17:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: They Shoot Horses, Don't They? [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber Studio Classics]: Horace McCoy’s Depression-era story is one of the best hardboiled novels I’ve ever read.  I’ve never seen Sydney Pollack’s film adaptation, but it is high on my “watch list.”  The fact that Gig Young, one of my favorite character actors, won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance makes it even more of a “must see.”

Additional Titles of Interest —

Rebecca [Blu-ray / Criterion Collection]: Hitchcock’s collaboration with David O’ Selznick gets the Criterion treatment.

Crime of Passion (Blu-ray /ClassicFlix): Barbara Stanwyck, Sterling Hayden, and Raymond Burr…  That sure sounds like noir to me!

Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In: The Complete First Season [4-DVD Set / Time Life]: And Morgul as the friendly Drelb.

In addition, a couple of great catalog titles are getting a 4K UHD upgrade: Blade Runner: The Final Cut [4k UHD BD / Warner Brothers] (Can you think of a better candidate for a 4K upgrade?) and the deliriously entertaining The Cabin in the Woods [4K Ultra HD / Lionsgate].
