Garv’s Pick of the Week: War of the Worlds & When Worlds Collide (4K UHD/Blu-ray, Paramount Presents)

For the release week of September 27th:

War of the Worlds & When Worlds Collide  [4K UHD-Blu-ray / Paramount Presents]: Two of the best 1950s sci-fi flicks are collected in this two-disc set from Paramount’s prestige home video label. War of the Worlds (1953), which was previously released as a Criterion Blu-ray, gets upgraded to 4K UHD, and When Words Collide (1951) makes its Blu-ray debut on a separate disc.

Additional Titles of Interest —

In Bruges [4K UHD / Kino Lorber]: Martin McDonagh’s hilarious black comedy, about two hitman hiding out after a botched job, is one of my favorite films of the 21st Century. Colin Farrell and Brendon Gleeson were never better. The film gets a 4K upgrade, approved by the cinematographer Eigil Bryld.

Zelig [Blu-ray / Sandpiper Pictures]: Sandpiper Pictures continues its re-releases of out-of-print Woody Allen Blu-rays with one of the filmmaker’s funniest and most clever comedies. They’re also re-releasing Stardust Memories and Interiors on the same day, but I’m not nearly as interested in those titles.

Hot Snake/Guns and Guts [Blu-ray / Sandpiper Pictures]: Two forgotten late-period Euro-Westerns are packaged together in this Blu-ray set.
