Garv’s Pick of the Week: Warlock (Twilight Time)

For the release week of May 21:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: Warlock [Blu-ray / Twilight Time]: This film, directed by the underrated Edward Dmytryk, is one of the best regarded Westerns of the 1950s.  It certainly has one of the best casts — Henry Fonda, Richard Widmark, Anthony Quinn, Dorothy Malone, Delores Michaels, DeForest Kelley, and Frank Gorshin.  I’ve never seen the film, but I’m currently reading the Oakley Hall novel upon which it was based.  If the film is one-quarter as good as the book, it is a great movie indeed.  Amazon links are not included for this title, as Twilight Time Blu-rays are exclusive to www.twilighttimemovies.comand www.screenarchives.com

Additional Titles of Interest —

Bandolero! [Blu-ray / Twilight Time]:  This is only a middling Western, but I’ll watch anything starring Dean Martin. Again, no Amazon links, as this is another Twilight Time exclusive.

Robbery [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Peter Yates’ British heist film is a crackerjack little crime picture.  Here’s my full review.

Bitter Moon [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: If you can separate the art from the artist, Roman Polanski made some fantastic films.

Ring of Bright Water [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Movies about animals never fail to make me cry.  That’ll do, otter.  That’ll do.

RKO Classic Adventures [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Kino Classics teamed with Lobster Films to release two collections of newly restored, early talkie films from RKO in HD.  The “Adventures” set includes three films — The Pay-Off (1930), The Silver Horde (1930), and The Painted Desert (1931).

RKO Classic Romances [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: The “Romances” set features five early talkie romances — Sin Takes a Holiday (1930), Millie (1931), Kept Husbands (1931), The Lady Refuses (1931), and The Woman Between (1931).
