Lloyd Hamilton – Silent Comedian DVD
Eleven months ago, Dave Glass held a Kickstarter to digitally scan, remaster, restore, and release six silent short comedies by forgotten comedian Lloyd Hamilton. The project was a success, but until now, the DVD has been unavailable outside of the original crowdfunding project.
Happily, the DVD-R disc can now be obtained easily through Amazon.com. Being that I missed the original Kickstarter campaign, this makes me very happy.
Here is the listing
on Amazon:
Lloyd Hamilton was a comedian’s comedian. Hugely admired by Chaplin & Keaton and a huge success with the public, he’s now largely forgotten, due to the unavailability of his films. This collection gathers together six of his shorts – all digitally scanned, remastered and restored from rare archive prints.
Titles are: HIS MUSICAL SNEEZE (1919) (courtesy of Danish Film Institute); DYNAMITE; THE SIMP; APRIL FOOL and MOONSHINE (all 1920); A HOME MADE MAN (1928).
Film historians will be interested to know that some of these shorts include appearances by Charley Chase, Virginia Rappe, Stan Laurel’s brother Ted Jefferson and a very young John Wayne!
Each film has a new musical score, composed & performed on piano by Meg Morley.
Produced by Dave Glass, this DVD shows the development of Lloyd’s unique on-screen character and, we hope, will push him a little further into the silent comedian spotlight.
Further information about this DVD, (in the form of a ‘making of’ video, titled ‘Lloyd Hamilton Kickstarter’), can be found on You Tube.
A D&D DVD.
