Blu-ray Restoration of The Three Musketeers (1921) Available for Preorder

Douglas Fairbanks was the greatest action star of the silent era, and unlike Errol Flynn, who followed in his footsteps, Doug did most of his own stunts. As a result, watching Fairbanks’ films gives the viewer the same added level of enjoyment that one gets viewing a movie starring Buster Keaton or Jackie Chan. Unfortunately, during the Blu-ray era, Douglas Fairbanks’ swashbucklers have been largely ignored.

Happily, the Film Preservation Society (a.k.a. The Biograph Project) has announced that they have partnered with Museum of Modern Art to perform a updated restoration of the silent 1921 adaptation of The Three Musketeers from the best available elements. The embedded video above provides a nice overview of the restoration work involved.

A Blu-ray of this new restoration is now available for preorder through the Film Preservation Society’s website. The release date has not officially been announced, but if you want to receive the Blu-ray as soon as it’s available, you might as well order now. Here’s the disc info from the Film Preservation Society’s website:
