Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection: Volume 1

I love the extra clarity provided by 4K UHD Blu-ray.  The only problem with the format is that too few classic releases have been given the upgrade.

On June 16th, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release six classics that they call “essential” in the box set Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection: Volume 1.  The titles included are Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Dr. Strangelove (1964), Ghandi (1982), A League of Their Own (1992), and Jerry Maguire (1996).  While I consider some of these titles more essential than others, it is good to see some catalog titles get the 4K UHD upgrade, and the “Volume 1” subtitle promises much more to come.

I’m guessing that there will be individual releases in 4K UHD for these titles down the line.  Be sure to check out the trailer embedded above!
