Garv’s Pick of the Week: Jerry Lewis at Columbia (Imprint Films)

For the release week of March 1st:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: Jerry Lewis at Columbia [Blu-ray / Imprint Films]: Here’s something that I never thought I’d see on Blu-ray. Australian label Imprint Films has collected two Jerry Lewis films from the period after he left Paramount for Columbia Pictures. Included are the self-directed comedy, The Big Mouth (1967) and the George Marshall-directed Hook, Line, and Sinker (1969), along with a nice collection of extras, including new audio commentary tracks for both movies. The parts are always better than the whole in Jerry Lewis films, but I remember The Big Mouth as having some very funny sequences. Also, “Jerry the director” always makes some unusual choices, so the film is interesting when it isn’t funny. I remember Hook, Line, and Sinker as being fairly flat, but I haven’t seen it since my childhood (in a heavily-edited TV broadcast). I’m looking forward to revisiting both titles. Please note that while Imprint is a foreign label, their discs are U.S. Region A friendly.

Additional Titles of Interest —

The Odd Couple Collection [Blu-ray / Imprint Films]: Here’s another interesting box set from Imprint Films. This 3-disc Blu-ray set collects both Jack Lemmon/Walter Matthau pairings as Felix and Oscar, The Odd Couple (1968) and The Odd Couple II (1998), along with 10 episodes from the popular 1970-75 Tony Randall/Jack Klugman TV series. The episodes are selected from all five seasons of the series and are presented in high definition.

James Bond: The Daniel Craig Collection 4K [4K UHD / Warner Brothers]: I think that Daniel Craig is the best actor to ever take on the role of James Bond. All five of his Bond films are collected here in 4K Ultra High Definition, including his farewell to the role, No Time to Die (2021),

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!: The Complete Series [Blu-ray / Warner Brothers]: This popular animated series, which began the adventures of the “Scooby Gang,” was previously released in a limited edition package. Now it’s back as a standard Blu-ray set.
