Garv’s Pick of the Week: Shampoo (Criterion)

For the release week of October 16th:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: Shampoo [Blu-ray / Criterion]: The great humanist director Hal Ashby (Harold and Maude, Being There)  teamed with writer Robert Towne (Chinatown) and producer Warren Beatty (Bonnie and Clyde) to create this 1975 comedy/drama.  I’ve never seen it, but I’m looking forward to filling that cinematic blind spot.

Additional Titles of Interest —

Invasion Of The Body Snatchers [Blu-ray / Olive Signature]: A sci-fi classic gets the loaded special edition that it deserves.  You’ll find my full review HERE.

Trilogy of Terror [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: A legendary TV movie from legendary producer-director Dan Curtis.  Beware the Zuni fetish doll!

Ash Vs. Evil Dead: Complete Collection [Blu-ray / Lionsgate]: Hail to the King, Baby!  Ash Williams’ story that began with Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead trilogy continues in this highly entertaining TV series.  All three seasons are collected in this Blu-ray set.

Dracula A.D. 1972 [Blu-ray / Warner Archive]: Hammer Studios had wrung most of the juice out of the Dracula franchise by this 1972 outing.  Still, it has Cushing and Lee, and that goes a long way.

Schlock [Blu-ray / Arrow Video]: John Landis’ directorial career began with this comedy horror, with an impressive gorilla suit from effects master Rick Baker.

The Big Lebowski [4K UHD / Universal]: The Dude abides, now in 4K ulta-high definition.
