Garv’s Pick of the Week: Singin’ in the Rain (4K UHD, Warner Brothers)

For the release week of April 26th:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: Singin’ in the Rain [4K UHD / Warner Brothers]: What a glorious feeling! I’m happy again! The most iconic (and most fun) of the MGM Technicolor musicals gets a 4K UHD upgrade this week. Of course, this is the umpteenth home video release of this joyful film, so you likely already own it. Still, the early reviews of the 4K UHD disc are sterling. If you want to own the film in the highest possible video quality, you may want to double-dip. Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen co-directed, and Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, and Donald O’Connor star (but you already knew that).

Additional Titles of Interest —

12 Monkeys [4K UHD / Arrow Video]: Terry Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys is also getting a 4K UHD upgrade. I haven’t seen it since its original 1995 theatrical release, but I’m interested in revisiting it. This time-travel sci-fi thriller, stars Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stowe, and Brad Pitt.

Orange County [Blu-ray / Paramount]: Here’s another one that I haven’t seen since it’s original release, but I remember liking it. This Jake Kasdan-helmed comedy stars Colin Hanks and Jack Black.

Film Noir: The Dark Side of Cinema VI [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: Three lesser-known noirs — Singapore (1947), Johnny Stool Pigeon (1949), and The Raging Tide (1951) — are collected in this Blu-ray box set.
