Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Man Who Laughs (Flicker Alley)

For the release week of June 4th:

Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Man Who Laughs [Blu-ray / Flicker Alley]: Paul Leni’s adaptation of the novel by Victor Hugo is one of the great movies of the silent era (and also the inspiration for the look of the Batman villain, The Joker).  This release is a new 4K restoration with a newly recorded score by the Berklee Silent Film Orchestra.  This is likely to be one of the best Blu-ray releases of the year.

Additional Titles of Interest —

The Last Warning [Blu-ray / Flicker Alley]: Sadly, Leni’s follow-up to The Man Who Laughs (1928) was also his final film before his untimely death.  Happily, it is also receiving a Blu-ray release this week from a 4K restoration.

Arabesque [Blu Ray] [Blu-ray / Universal]: Gregory Peck and Sophia Loren star in this comedic thriller, directed by Stanley Donen (Charade) during his Hitchcockian phase.

The Andromeda Strain [Blu-ray / Arrow Video]: Entertainment doesn’t get much more sciencey than this.

The Man Who Killed Don Quixote [Blu-ray / Screen Media]: Terry Gilliam finally finished this thing.  Now somebody has to watch it.

Venture Bros.: The Complete Seventh Season [Blu-ray / Warner Bros]: Seven years in, and this hilarious animated series is still woefully underrated.  Feel the sting of The Monarch!!!

Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit [Blu-ray / Universal]: I can’t believe that this wasn’t released on Blu-ray years ago.

New Scooby-Doo Movies, The: The (Almost) Complete Collection [Blu-ray / Warner Bros]: Remember when Scooby-Doo teamed up with Don Knotts? Epic.
